Website Development
RED’s previous website had served the organization for many years, but it no longer met the needs of modern users. Portions of the site were outdated, difficult to navigate, and not functioning as intended. Important information was scattered throughout the website, making it challenging for businesses, investors, and site selectors to quickly find the resources they needed.
The redesign presented an opportunity to do more than modernize the website. As RED prepared to celebrate 100 years of economic development leadership, the new platform needed to honor the organization’s legacy while positioning Northern West Virginia as a competitive location for future business growth and investment.
This project involved a complete restructuring of the website’s architecture, content, and user experience. We expanded the site’s content footprint significantly, creating dedicated sections for business attraction, workforce development, entrepreneurship, commercial real estate, quality of life, and regional advantages.
Key focus areas included:
- Business attraction and relocation resources
- Commercial real estate and available properties
- Entrepreneurship and startup support programs
- Regional workforce and talent initiatives
- Community and quality of life content
- Economic development services and resources
- 100-year anniversary brand positioning
The result is a website that serves multiple audiences while maintaining a clear path for users to find information quickly and efficiently.
The website was designed to function as both a marketing platform and an economic development resource center. Navigation was carefully structured to accommodate businesses considering relocation, entrepreneurs seeking support, site selectors researching opportunities, and local stakeholders looking for resources.
Rather than focusing solely on organizational information, the design shifts attention to the region itself, highlighting the advantages of doing business in Northern West Virginia while creating a more engaging and intuitive user experience.
Given RED’s role in representing multiple communities, industries, and stakeholders throughout Northern West Virginia, collaboration was essential throughout the project. We worked closely with organizational leadership to understand priorities, gather content, verify regional information, and ensure the website accurately represented the organization’s mission and services.
This collaborative process allowed us to create a website that balances strategic economic development goals with practical usability for a wide range of audiences.
Content Strategy
Content strategy was one of the most important components of this project. Economic development websites serve a unique purpose. They must market a region, educate prospective businesses, support site selection efforts, and communicate organizational value, all within a single platform.
Our approach focused on restructuring and expanding content to better tell the story of Northern West Virginia. We developed messaging that highlights regional strengths, workforce advantages, infrastructure assets, entrepreneurial resources, and quality-of-life benefits while ensuring the information remained accessible and actionable.
The website content was also designed to support search visibility across economic development, business relocation, commercial real estate, entrepreneurship, workforce development, and regional investment opportunities. This allows RED to attract both local and national audiences searching for opportunities within the region.
The Outcome
RED now operates with a modern, scalable digital platform that accurately reflects both the organization’s century-long legacy and its future-focused mission. The redesigned website serves as a comprehensive resource for businesses, investors, site selectors, entrepreneurs, and regional stakeholders while presenting Northern West Virginia as a competitive and attractive place to invest, expand, and grow.
The expanded content structure provides significantly more opportunities to market the region’s assets, available properties, workforce advantages, and economic development programs. Visitors can now navigate complex information more easily, resulting in a stronger user experience and more effective communication of RED’s services and value.
The website also strengthens RED’s ability to support business attraction and site selection efforts by providing a centralized platform for showcasing opportunities throughout Northern West Virginia. Through improved organization, modern design, enhanced functionality, and expanded content, the new website positions RED to continue driving economic growth and regional development for the next century.
More importantly, the project transformed the website from a basic organizational resource into a strategic marketing platform that actively promotes investment, entrepreneurship, workforce development, and regional prosperity. As RED celebrates 100 years of service, the organization now has a digital foundation built to support its mission for years to come.
